******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY ********************
Hot Country Songs is a music record chart published by Billboard magazine on a weekly basis in the United States.
The 50-position Hot Country Songs chart records the most prominent country music songs, tallied on a weekly basis by compiling airplay data from Nielsen BDS (Broadcast Data Systems) service as well as digital streaming and sales. Billboard magazine started stockpiling data on popular country songs during its first issue in January 8, 1944 with the chart entitled "Most Played Juke Box Folk Records”. For approximately ten years since 1948, Billboard magazine utilized three music charts to assess the demand for any given song.
Starting with Billboard magazine’s October 20, 1958 issue, it began incorporating radio airplay as well as sales in measuring a song's overall fame, summing up the measure in one single chart entitled "Hot C&W Sides". The Hot C&W Sides chart started with 30 positions each week. The number of positions and the name of the chart has been modified (positions increased and decreased) several times through the years. In Billboard’s January 13, 2001 issue, the chart was slashed from 75 to 60 positions, and from April 30, 2005 the chart’s title was hanged to "Hot Country Songs".
